Ted Lasso Coaching & Leadership Lessons
My Favourite Ted's Lessons
- How to react to criticism? With a smile and saying βit's fairβ #communication/tip
- If you lose, let it sink in, and after be a goldfish (which forgets it after 10 seconds) β don't hold your negativity
- have the courage to make hard decisions (even if that means getting rid of a star player in favour of the team) β courage is about being willing to try, and the courage to do hard things earns trust!
- The captain should pick his successor, not the coach (leadership)
- If a teacher tells a bully not to pick on someone, itβs just gonna make it worse β team captain should display leadership to make it stop
- build and protect peer accountability (if you find out anyone did anything wrong, let them fix their undoing, dont do it for them - eg when Keely finds out about Rebecca's paparazzi, she insists she tells Ted)
- be curious not judgmental β don't think you have it all figured out, ask a lot before you make the best conclusion about that person (don't assume that you play darts well, find out first how well your opponent knows it)
- always be positive
- give gifts (people need - eg book they need to read to grow)
- fix behaviour issues by positive reinforcement?
- Start your public speech with a joke about yourself!
- pay attention to the details (especially details related to the lives of other people)
